Selsey Lifeboat Station Celebrates its 150th Anniversary
with a Ball at the Embassy Ballroom, West Sands
Selsey Lifeboat Station ended a very successful 150th Anniversary year with a Celebration
Ball at Bunn Leisure's Embassy Suite on Saturday 19th November 2011.
With the ladies dressed in their beautiful outfits and the men suited and booted, 180
past and present Management, Coxswains, Crews, Re-housing crews, major sponsors of the Anniversary year,
Medical Officers, Fundraisers, Boathouse and Museum Attendants, and Lifeboat Association members, all got
together to honour the occasion.
Following an excellent 3-course Dinner, the Station Chairman, John Light, welcomed the
guests, who included Admiral the Lord Boyce, KG GCB OBE DL, Chairman of the RNLI, Don Lunn, Master of
the Guild of Freemen of the City of London and Chairman of Selsey Town Council, Mike Beal, together with
many others who had raised money for Selsey Lifeboat over the years.
Admiral the Lord Boyce then presented the Station with its 150th Anniversary Certificate on Vellum to
Lifeboat Operations Manager, Clive Cockayne. He congratulated the Station and all its voluntary helpers
on a very successful record, both in fund-raising and in launching 1937 times and saving 1350 lives at
sea.
What better achievement can there be. (And what a wonderful time was had by all!)
